Club History
Woodland Country Club was the very first private country club in Hamilton County. The strong tradition of family involvement continues through its multiple generations of the founding members. In 1928 famed golf course designer Bill Diddel purchased 160 acres of rolling farmland North of Indianapolis and hung on to it during the depression & World War II. He began designing his own course in 1951. Originally opened as a public course, its unique layout attracted golfers from the surrounding area and encouraged a movement to make the course a private entity. In 1955 Mr. Diddel agreed to lease the property and build a clubhouse and swimming pool if 300 charter members could be signed by January 15, 1956. Since that time the course has matured through improvements including bent grass fairways, new tees and greens of the same bent grass.

In the spring of 2002, legendary golf course architect, Pete Dye, unveiled his recreation of the original Bill Diddel design. Mr. Dye created an enduring design and visually striking layout that is innovative and bold, but retains a classical sensibility. The design features unforgettable holes that golfers of all skill levels will enjoy playing time and time again.
